Certified Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Training that honors the people in the room. Learn to recognize and respond to youth mental health challenges.
Evidence-Based Training,
Grounded in Culture
Youth Mental Health First Aid is a nationally recognized certification course that teaches adults how to recognize early signs of mental health challenges in young people and respond with empathy and skill. It is not therapy and it is not crisis response. It is practical knowledge: how to listen, how to de-escalate, how to connect young people with appropriate support.

Why Texas Schools Need It Now
In 2023, Texas House Bill 3 established a statewide mandate requiring all school district employees who regularly interact with students to complete an evidence-based mental health training program. YMHFA satisfies that requirement in full. The deadline for compliance is the start of the 2028-2029 school year, and districts are responsible for ensuring every qualifying staff member is trained.
That includes teachers, counselors, coaches, librarians, nurses, administrators, paraprofessionals, support staff, substitutes, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, and more.
If your school or district has not yet completed this training, the clock is running.
Training Content
Each Sana Roots Co YMHFA training runs as a private session for your team. Everything is taught interactively with role-play practice so you actually know how to do this, not just theoretically understand it.
Here is what the day includes:

Opening mindfulness circle to ground the group
Arrive together. We start by creating space for presence.

The five-step ALGEE action plan
Your toolkit. A framework you'll actually use when it counts.

Full YMHFA certification curriculum, facilitated by a certified instructor
Learn the framework from someone who knows the field.

Space for questions, and real conversation
This isn't lecture. We make time for what comes up.

Recognize and respond to youth mental health challenges
Know what to look for and how to respond.

Closing healing circle to integrate the experience
We close the way we opened, together.
