Foodways & Land Stewardship
Reconnection to ancestral food traditions as a pathway to healing, identity, and holistic health
More Than Just Cooking
Food is never just food. It carries culture, memory, identity, and medicine in ways that go far deeper than nutrition facts or recipes. Our ancestral foodways are the practices and knowledge our communities have developed over generations about how to grow, prepare, and share food in ways that nourish body, mind, and spirit. Food is where culture lives and breathes. It is how we pass wisdom forward.
A core belief underlying all of this work is that each individual holds the key to unlock memory and relationship to the land by way of familiar cultural foods, scents, and flavors that live in their bodies even if they have never consciously accessed them before. Our foodways program also introduces food justice and asks the questions: who systemically gets access to nutritious foods and who doesn't? This brings a very singular interaction with produce, recognizing that a single tomato contains a story, and then zooms out into the macro to understand how colonization, displacement, and capitalism have shaped what foods are available to whom and at what cost.
Through all of this, communal meals and reflection time become medicine. Sitting together with what we have prepared, eating, talking about what shifted or what we noticed: this is where the real transformation happens, because food shared in community is different than food eaten alone.
What Participants Gain
When you reconnect to ancestral foodways, something shifts. Your body starts to remember.

Health & Nourishment
Improved eating habits and health practices as you reconnect to foods your body recognizes and trusts.
Food becomes medicine again, not just fuel.

Cultural Grounding
Increased cultural pride and knowledge of your roots. Understanding that the foods your ancestors ate were not just sustenance but ceremony, resistance, and love.

Intergenerational Connection
Strengthened relationships across generations. Elders teaching, youth learning, families cooking together and discovering they belong to something larger than themselves.

How to Join
All programs are offered free or on donation scale pricing because we believe cost should never be a barrier to belonging. We work hard to keep our programs accessible, and we partner with schools, community centers, and organizations to keep costs down.
We are always looking for more community spaces willing to partner with us and more schools interested in bringing our programming in, because the more partnerships we build, the more people we can reach without cost being the obstacle.
